Job Description
Energy Transfer seeks an onsite FTR Power Trader in Overland Park, KS to develop and execute trading strategies in the PJM/MISO FTR markets and manage risk across long-term, annual, and monthly auctions as well as the secondary market.
Responsibilities
- Analyze electricity market fundamentals, including supply, demand, and grid congestion, to uncover profitable opportunities in PJM/MISO FTR markets.
- Design advanced trading strategies based on historical congestion patterns, outages, and evolving market conditions.
- Apply strategic power flow analysis to support the ongoing integration of new generation into the grid.
- Track factors that influence pricing, availability, and reliability of power resources across the PJM/MISO footprint.
- Assess complex energy transactions and their effects on FTR positions.
- Incorporate quantitative methods into fundamental trading approaches to optimize portfolio construction and results.
- Execute FTR trades across Long-term, Annual, and Monthly FTR Auctions as well as the FTR Secondary market through the FTR Center.
- Place strategic bids and offers for FTRs aligned with risk tolerance and portfolio objectives.
- Monitor and manage existing FTR positions in the secondary market to maximize value and limit risk.
- Collaborate with other trading desks to ensure FTR positions fit the broader energy trading strategy.
- Maintain comprehensive records of trading activities and deliver regular performance reporting.
- Develop and sustain robust risk management practices for FTR trading activities.
- Create hedges to mitigate congestion risk exposure.
- Track portfolio positions, mark-to-market valuations, and risk metrics with ongoing reporting.
- Ensure all trading complies with internal risk policies and applicable regulations.
- Stay informed on PJM/MISO transmission developments, rule changes, and market conditions.
- Evaluate how renewable generation projects, plant retirements, and transmission upgrades affect congestion patterns.
- Build and maintain relationships with key market participants and PJM/MISO stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal teams to share market intelligence and align strategic approaches.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of power trading experience with a focus on FTR/CRR markets.
- Proven track record in FTR trading strategies and portfolio management.
- Strong understanding of PJM/MISO market structure, rules, and settlement processes.
