Job Description

Westwood Management Corp, a Houston-based energy private equity firm specializing in GP strategies and secondaries, is seeking a Director, GP Strategies to help lead the investment team. This hybrid role in Houston focuses on GP interests, fundraising, underwriting, financial modeling, and due diligence across upstream, midstream, oilfield services, power, and other traditional energy sectors, contributing to portfolio management, strategic decision-making, and investor communications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine Excel-based underwriting models for GP interests, continuation funds, and direct investments within energy private equity.
  • Lead company-level analyses across upstream, midstream, and other energy sectors, including discounted cash flow, M&A precedent transactions, well-by-well analyses, and price-sensitivity testing related to oil and gas prices.
  • Oversee end-to-end due diligence across multiple GPs and funds, evaluating fund and direct investments for underlying and new portfolio companies.
  • Prepare investment committee materials and quarterly investment reports with data-driven recommendations.
  • Support origination by assessing opportunities and cultivating relationships with industry contacts, including travel to industry conferences, AGMs, and investor meetings.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify attractive investment themes and targets.
  • Lead deal structuring, negotiations, and documentation in collaboration with legal and advisory teams.
  • Ensure timely execution aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor portfolio company performance and drive value-creation initiatives, including M&A, operational improvements, and strategic planning.
  • Provide experienced input to assist the investment team in key decision-making.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, engage with investors and prospective investors, and expand industry contacts.
  • Attend AGM meetings to grow existing relationships and develop new energy private equity connections.
  • Source new investment opportunities through AGMs, investor meetings, and client engagements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, petroleum engineering, or related fields.
  • Series 7 and CFA designation preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in energy-focused asset management, investment banking, and private equity.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with unrestricted U.S. work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and client-service skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proven track record of deal execution, underwriting, and investment analysis.
  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills.
  • Excellent communication and strong client-focused interpersonal abilities.
  • Meticulous, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Professional, mature demeanor with a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work under pressure, and manage deadlines proactively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively in a small team environment.
