Deputy Controller

Empowered Staffing seeks a Deputy Controller in Skokie, IL (onsite) with a salary range of USD 115,000 - 130,000 per year to oversee monthly close and financial reporting for a portfolio of healthcare real estate assets.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close for a portfolio of healthcare real estate assets, preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements, performing account reconciliations, posting journal entries, and ensuring timely, accurate reporting.
• Collaborate with the Director of Finance and the Controller to analyze portfolio performance, generate management and external financial reports, and support strategic decision-making with data-driven insights.
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including cash activity monitoring, bank reconciliations, chart of accounts maintenance, and upholding strong internal controls.
• Develop and review financial analyses, budgets, forecasts, and variance reporting to support portfolio and operational planning, highlighting opportunities and risks.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and outsourced accounting providers while supporting annual audits and regulatory reporting.
• Monitor debt levels and loan compliance; assist with loan applications, assemble financial documentation, and manage lender reporting to ensure transparency and covenant adherence.
• Collaborate with internal teams (AP, AR, operations) to ensure data accuracy, streamline processes, and enable timely reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7–8 years of accounting experience, including financial reporting and portfolio-level analysis.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems; Sage Intacct experience is a plus.
• Experience supporting audits, budgeting, and financial analysis.
• CPA or CMA certification preferred.
