Responsibilities

Deliver financial reports to the Board of Directors and prepare for the annual audit
Establish and maintain internal controls and oversight of all financial transactions, including cash management, contracts, payroll, grants management, and medical billing reconciliation

Requirements

Position Overview

The Finance Director serves under the Executive Director and oversees the Tribe’s financial management functions, including administration, daily operations, staff supervision, policy development, and grant or program management. Knowledge and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business, or a related field is required. Seven years of experience in finance, business or a related field with similar responsibilities may substitute for the degree.
A minimum of five years of administrative experience is required, with ten years preferred.
Proficiency in computer systems to develop and maintain financial, operating, and reporting requirements for budgeting, reporting, and grants; working knowledge of business and financial concepts; ability to perform financial analysis as needed.
Supervisory Experience (strongly preferred): direct management of a department and staff; five years of management experience is strongly preferred.
Grant Expertise (required): knowledge of federal, state and private grants to manage the Tribe’s financial needs; capability to oversee grants from inception through audit. Training in financial grants management must be completed within the first 90 days if lacking prior expertise.
Financial Proficiency (required): analytical skills; development and monitoring of budgets, reporting, and auditing within awarded grants and budgets. Familiarity with Microix and MIP strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Seven (7) years professional accounting work experience, to include: General Ledger, Grants and Endowment Management, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Financial Statement preparation required.
Five (5) years work experience with demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities required; prior supervisory experience required.

Essential Functions

Oversee daily processing and maintenance of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and procurement to ensure nationwide financial accuracy across the agency.

Position Details

Classification: Professional/Management, Full-Time, Regular. Reports To: Chief Executive Officer. Location: The Klamath Tribes Administration, 501 Chiloquin Blvd., Chiloquin, OR 97624. Salary Range: $101,135 – $177,341 annually (Step Range 43–62; Full Benefits). Hourly Range: $48.62 – $85.26. Background Requirement: Executive-level experience.

Key Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership across all financial functions, including accounting, procurement, property management, information systems, and financial reporting.
Direct administration of Federal and State contracts and grants to ensure regulatory compliance and proper funding usage.
Develop and enforce Tribal investment policies to safeguard financial resources and ensure prudent stewardship.
Maintain and enhance financial systems, internal controls, and operational procedures to support organizational effectiveness and accountability.
Produce timely and accurate financial statements, reports, and analyses to inform strategic planning and executive decision making.
Lead, mentor, and evaluate Finance Department leadership and staff, fostering professionalism, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with executive leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, and long term financial strategies.
Ensure the organization has the financial and statistical information necessary to operate efficiently and meet its mission.
Represent the Finance Department in executive meetings, Tribal Council sessions, and external audits.
