Job Description

The Financial Controller leads the finance function for a Raleigh-based construction firm with 14 years in business, directing financial management, planning, and strategy to support long-term viability and success. The role also encompasses ancillary duties in collaboration with partner architecture and real estate companies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Owners and the General Manager to drive process improvements that tighten expense control and optimize profit and cash flow.
  • Oversee annual analysis of professional billable rates and the development of operating budgets.
  • Perform regular financial reviews, including monthly operating statements, cash flow analyses, forecasts, and balance sheets.
  • Collect and organize financial data as needed, synthesize information into clear reports, and distinguish valid data comparisons from invalid ones.
  • Ensure accurate development, analysis, and reporting of financial information to management.
  • Ensure timely and precise preparation of forecasts and project budgets.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Coordinate monthly invoicing with Owners and the General Manager and generate invoices as needed.
  • Maintain compliance through annual reports, business licenses, personal property filings, taxes, and liaison with the CPA.
  • Maintain business and project related insurance coverage in collaboration with the local broker and Owners/General Manager.
  • Uphold rigorous ethics and compliance standards.
  • Develop the annual budget and monitor it monthly.
  • Prepare monthly transaction reports to balance books against project expenditures.
  • Coordinate with the in-house bookkeeper.
  • Administer the 401(k) plan.
  • Oversee bidding and estimating in collaboration with the General Manager to formulate project budgets.
  • Assist with financial scheduling and budget management, including change orders, daily logs, ProCore Owner Portal, and RFIs.
  • Enter receipts into ProCore and QuickBooks.
  • Serve as the primary contact for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Conduct postmortems and reconciliations to evaluate project outcomes.
  • Support monthly invoicing for the partner architecture company.
  • Assist with annual tax and insurance coordination for the partner architecture firm and partner real estate company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Seven years of experience in a business or finance environment.
  • Construction experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting with strong analytical skills; proven problem-solving abilities.
  • High integrity, reliability, and adherence to professional ethics.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced presentation skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-finance professionals.
  • High attention to detail.

Pay

Hourly range: USD 45.00 – 65.00 per hour
