Project Accountant
Job Description
PrideStaff is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the full-cycle financial operations for assigned construction projects. This on-site role in Woodland Hills, CA collaborates with Project Managers to oversee job cost tracking, subcontractor billing, owner billings (AIA), and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, ensuring accurate financials across multiple active projects. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 3-7 years of construction accounting experience are ideal, with compensation in the range of USD 40 - 55 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting for assigned projects from project setup through closeout.
- Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA G702/G703 pay applications.
- Review, process, and track subcontractor pay applications, including compliance.
- Maintain and reconcile job costs, commitments, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and partner with Project Managers to identify risks and variances.
- Ensure accurate cost coding and allocation across all project expenses.
- Track and manage retainage (AR/AP) and ensure proper release upon project milestones.
- Process and track change orders for both subcontractors and owners.
- Prepare and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, including revenue recognition (POC).
- Support month-end close, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Assist with audit and surety reporting, including preparation of required schedules and documentation.
- Maintain complete and organized project financial files.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience with AIA billing (G702/G703) and AIA/WIP.
- 3-7 years of experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.
- Experience with subcontractors’ pay applications and compliance tracking.
- Job cost accounting and WIP reporting experience.
- Percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition.
- Construction accounting systems experience (YARDI, Sage 300/Timberline, Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active projects.
- Experience with surety bonding and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with union and certified payroll environments.
- CPA or progress toward certification is preferred.
- Strong ownership of project financials and proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Analytical mindset and effective cross-functional communication with operations teams.
